Potentially irritating cleansing agent; safe as used.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a well-established cleansing agent. While pure SLS can cause significant irritation, the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) expert panel has repeatedly reviewed its safety and concluded that it is safe for use in cosmetic products at concentrations typically found. Its primary function is as a surfactant to create lather and clean the skin.
